A Whimsical Woodland Wedding at Bear Mill Estates in Denver, Pennsylvania
Paying tribute to their love of the outdoors, Colton Staver and Brett Weyant planned a whimsical woodland wedding with a muted color palette of earth tones and a mix of industrial and natural touches. “As a couple, we both have an eye for anything unusual. So, when it came to designing our big day, it took extra thought to find that unique touch,” Colton says. The pair immersed their guests in the outdoorsy theme, dressing up the ceremony entrance with cascading arrangements of pampas grass, Persian rugs and wooden signage featuring white curly script. For the ceremony, Colton and Brett decided against traditional center aisle seating and arranged chairs in various groupings around a handcrafted wood tepee adorned with a rack of antlers, lush pine and seasonal accents. The couple personalized their ceremony with an Apache wedding blessing and Cherokee prayer. “It pays homage to the forces of the universe, Mother Earth, fire, wind and water,” Colton says. “We love how this tied in with the overall picture of our day.” As a symbol of their unity, the newlyweds also planted a sapling with soil from the gardens of their parents’ homes. An alfresco cocktail hour followed the ceremony, where guests enjoyed live music by Mountain Chaser while nibbling on decadent hors d’oeuvres. “We had models dressed up as woodland nymph creatures stationed all around the property,” Colton says. “When guests arrived, they felt like they had been teleported into a different world. Guests were led around the property back to the ceremony location with the four models acting as though guests were invading their land. Guests have raved up until this day about the nymphs, and I couldn’t be happier with coming up with this concept and how well it turned out!” At the reception, geometric terrariums and taper candles were styled alongside mixed greenery, including ruscus, eucalyptus, ferns, cedar, pittosporum and a variety of pods, grasses and even artichokes. One of the couple’s favorite DIY design elements was a cluster of golden hoops dripping with greenery and metal caged lamps suspended over the head table. Beyond the décor, Colton and Brett put their personal stamp on the festivities with a menu of spicy Mexican fare and a sweet cotton candy bar.
