An Airy, Industrial Wedding at the Liberty Warehouse in Brooklyn, New York

As elementary school teachers at the same school, Julia Achenbaum (30) and Gabriela Cabido Carr (29) tried to keep their relationship under wraps at first. But "it was quite obvious to everyone how crazy we were about each other," Gabriela says. Five years later, they exchanged personal vows on New York Harbor, with 290 guests -- and the Statue of Liberty -- as witnesses. Their DIY wedding took cues from the industrial venue, with rustic touches like handmade wood signs, loose bouquets in mercury glass vases and vintage furniture.  Julie and Gabriela married at The Liberty Warehouse in Red Hook, Brooklyn. Bud vases held peonies, lavender, limonium, lisianthus, dusty miller, ranunculus and anemones. The 3-year-old ring bearer carried decoy bands on an embroidered pillow. A bundle of lavender scented the escort-card table. Gabriela's dad, a carpenter, built and painted a reclaimed-wood frame for the welcome sign, which the couple filled with a map of Brooklyn. He also crafted slate table numbers. Flavor jars filled with everything bagel spice blend, the pair's favorite seasoning, topped a cart.  A friend read a joke-filled poem during the ceremony. Edison bulbs and candles brought a warm glow to the brick warehouse. Guests dined on heirloom tomatoes with burrata cheese, a pan-seared branzino with lemon caper sauce and toasted couscous. The couple chose chocolate mousse cake, creme brulee and ice cream sundaes for dessert.
