An Autumnal, Still Life-Inspired Wedding at the Planterra Conservatory in West Bloomfield, Michigan

Autumn, wine and still-life paintings all came into play when Marjorie Devereux Zoebisch (32 and an architect and printmaker) and Peter Halbrook (28 and a financial advisor) planned their sophisticated greenhouse nuptials.

“Peter and I both knew we didn’t want a typical ballroom venue at a hotel or country club,” Marjorie says of booking Planterra Conservatory for their fall wedding. Inspired by their shared love of Dutch artwork, the couple incorporated fresh fruit and moody florals throughout the airy space. “We wanted the design to look beautiful and feel very different from any other event our guests had seen,” Marjorie says.

“I wanted lace—and lots of it!” Marjorie says of adding sleeves to her gown’s existing strapless design.

The newlyweds cut into a chocolate and raspberry confection before serving slices of tres leches cake.

Guests sipped mezcal and champagne cocktails on the conservatory’s patio, where they took in the reception tables, while vintage-inspired dinnerware and ornate candelabras lent an antique look to the glass-lined space.
