An Eclectic Fall Wedding at Deity in Brooklyn, New York

Laura Baker (34, a Managing Director Planet Connections Theater Festivity) and Rich Wisneski (32, an actor) met during a production of Spontaneous Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night." They got along great, but they went their separate ways as actors often do once a show is closed. Several months later, Laura asked Rich to join her in another Shakespearean show, "The Merchant of Venice,” and he thankfully accepted the work. The two reconnected as friends and enjoyed hanging out watching movies, going to parks and generally having a good time until it became painfully obvious that they were in love with each other. They became a couple and all has been well in the world since.It was sunset on July 3 -- the day before Rich and Laura's favorite holiday. Both were prepping for the annual party they host for friends to celebrate Independence Day. After a long day of work, Laura came home and took a shower, grabbed a beer and went out onto her terrace where Rich had asked her to come out and watch the sunset. It had just finished raining and the evening promised to be quite nice. As Laura sat down, Rich began to speak of the things he hoped for in life. He spoke about family and friends and the love he felt in his heart for Laura. He spoke about how he was happy every single day and how much he enjoyed life in Brooklyn with her. Then he got down on one knee and asked her to be his wife. Laura said yes and managed not to cry ...that is until 'Real Love' started playing and a double rainbow appeared in the sky.“Deity is our kind of eclectic,” Laura says. “The top floor is elegant, and transforms, like magic, from intimate ceremony, to elegant dining room. The basement looks and feels like the trendiest club, you'd ever want to go to, but filled with all of your family and friends.”The theme was Jane Austen Meets Godzilla. The bride loves Jane Austen novels and the groom is a major fan of the famous Kaiju. After much light hearted debate, they settled on the theme because it seemed silly, fun and memorable -- just like the couple.
