An Elegant, Opulent Wedding at the Langham Huntington Hotel in Pasadena, California
For Jay-Roel Gomez (27 and an employee development specialist), it was love at first sight, but you could say that it was Gayle Choakongkee’s (28 and a project manager) cool fashion sense that brought the two together. Jay-Roel spotted Gayle on campus one day and was instantly struck by her beauty, but figured he would never see her again. “A couple of days later, I was at an event on campus and as I was walking, I caught a glimpse of a pair of Nike AirMax on someone's feet,” says Jay-Roel. “The bright color caught my attention, but when I looked up, it was her, the girl! I knew that this was definitely meant to be.” Jay-Roel gathered up the courage to introduce himself to Gayle, using her brightly colored kicks to get the conversation going. Five years later, Jay-Roel popped the question on the beach in Santa Monica, enlisting the help of his brother and best friend to surprise Gayle with a rendition of Al Green’s “Let’s Stay Together.” For their wedding, the couple planned an elegant blowout bash at The Langham Huntington in Pasadena. The day kicked off with a traditional ceremony at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church officiated by the diocese’s bishop and music performed by Grammy nominated soprano singer Louise Cornillez and the Harana Men’s Chorus. Guests were greeted by a harpist and inspired eats during cocktail hour and live performances kept guests out on the dance floor all night long. Playing up the venue’s opulent, elegant vibe, Gayle and Jay-Roel opted for a color palette of ivory and white with pops of blush pink and gold. Cascading arrangements of orchids and bunches of ivory and white hydrangeas, tulips and roses brought the perfectly dressed reception tables to life. Touches like a special performance by Jay-Roel and his brothers and heart-felt speeches during the reception added a personal note to the day to make Gayle and Jay-Roel’s wedding truly unique.
