An Elegant, Traditional Wedding at the Newberry Library in Chicago, Illinois

Ryan Barrer (31 and an entertainment director) and Jenny Langendok (29 and a marketing supervisor) met in Chicago, where they both worked for the same company and would run into one another at office functions. They didn't date until three years later, however--when Ryan decided to move to Los Angeles. They carried on a long distance relationship until Jenny moved to Los Angeles to be with him. Ryan proposed two years later in Chicago at the same place where they had their first date. Inspired by the city where their love began, Ryan and Jenny decided to host their wedding in Chicago with a traditional Catholic ceremony at St. Michael's Church and a reception at the Newberry Library.  Since they decided on a library venue, Jenny decided to incorporate old books into the centerpieces with menus printed on library cards. She also designed all of the navy and white wedding stationary herself and stamped and calligraphed everything by hand. Most of the flower arrangements incorporated bright orange stems, like roses and tulips, to contrast from the navy color palette. The bridesmaids wore short navy dresses, while the groomsmen donned gray vests with orange plaid ties. Jenny's mother helped make all the desserts for the reception, including the small wedding cake decorated with orange flowers and a typographic cake topper. At the end of the reception, guests went home with favor bags of coffee beans from a custom coffee bar. "The whole day was relaxed and full of joy, family and friends--a great reflection of us as a couple!" Jenny says.

Jenny designed, stamped, and printed all of the navy and white stationary, including the invitations and escort cards. She even did all of the calligraphy by hand!
Strapless, Mermaid-Fit, Lace Wedding Dress
Jenny carried an all-white bouquet of large peonies with a few small green accents for contrast. It helped complete her classic and timeless bridal look.
Bride Getting Ready in Down Hairstyle and Drop Earrings
Jenny wore a strapless, lace Maggie Sottero wedding dress in a mermaid silhouette. She wore her hair down and swept to the side for a soft, romantic look.
Ryan wore a gray suit with a jacket to stand apart from his groomsmen and an orange floral boutonniere. He matched his groomsmen by wearing the same orange plaid tie.
Jenny's bridesmaids carried small, orange bouquets that incorporated roses and tulips. The bright orange flowers popped off of their dark navy dresses.
The bridesmaids picked out their own short, navy blue dresses in whatever style they wanted. Ryan's groomsmen, on the other hand, wore matching gray suit pants and vests.
Ryan and Jenny held their ceremony at St. Michael's Church to reflect their Catholic faith. Despite living in Los Angeles, they knew they wanted a Chicago wedding to pay tribute to the city that originally brought them together.
The Reception at the Newberry Library
The centerpieces incorporated bright orange flower arrangements of roses and tulips to match the bridesmaid bouquets. Other decor elements incorporated the library theme, like worn books and menus printed on library cards.
Catered Canape Hors D'Ouvres
After a traditional steak, chicken, or pasta dinner and baked desserts, Jenny and Ryan sent their guests home with goodie bags of coffee beans from a custom coffee bar.
Jenny's mother is a skilled baker, so she volunteered to make all of the wedding desserts, including the small buttercream wedding cake. The cake was decorated with bright orange flowers and a simple "love" cake topper.
