An Elegant Wedding at Historic Germania Place in Chicago, Illinois

Bethany (29 and a resident physician) and Nicholas (29 and a pharmacist) got to know each other in college and grew close through a shared physics lab

Bethany (29 and a resident physician) and Nicholas (29 and a pharmacist) got to know each other in college and grew close through a shared physics lab junior year, but they didn’t start dating until the beginning of their senior year. They then spent four years apart as she went to off to med school (at SIU) and he went to pharmacy school (at UIC), where they lived over five hours apart from one another. When she graduated, Bethany moved to Chicago to be with Nick, and eventually they moved in together. Nick proposed on their seven-year-anniversary after a year of shopping with her closest friends to find the right ring. Bethany was working night shifts, and when she came home at 9am, Nick was standing in their kitchen in a suit with a timeline of memorabilia from their relationship (cards, gifts, pictures, etc.) strewn over the island counter. Bethany recounts, “We did a kind of ‘walk down memory lane,’ and when we came to the last piece of memorabilia, Nick said something to the effect of, ‘We’ve come as far as we can as boyfriend and girlfriend.’” They were married in the heard of Chicago’s Old Town at Germania Place, where they held a “classy and timeless” ceremony with a purple and black color palette.

Despite not utilizing the same purple color scheme, Bethany and Nick's modest white wedding invitations were sophisticated and clean-looking, much like the overall theme of the wedding.

Bethany's bouquet doubled as a centerpiece at the reception. It was placed in a vase in the center of the head table and seamlessly tied into the other table arrangements.

Bethany, who hates wearing heels, opted instead for Toms white wedges, which still gave her the lift she needed to stand next to her incredibly tall husband. She accessorized her gown with a crystal hair comb and pearl drop necklace, both of which she found on Etsy.
Bethany and Nick hired a party limo to take them around to different photo shoot locations around Chicago. This allowed them to get both architectural, urban photos on the city streets and picturesque nature shots in the park.
Although her bridesmaids all planned on wearing different dresses, they ended up falling for the same black, A-line style. The neutral dresses were the ideal backdrop for their bright purple hydrangea bouquets.
Bethany chose calla lilies for her bouquet and table arrangements because of their sleek and elegant feel. The tall centerpieces paired well with the venue's high ceiling.
Bethany and Nick had their favorite neighborhood bakery—which they visit at least twice a week for coffee and pastries—design their square, four-tier wedding cake.
The reception’s DJ, Tony Ho from Sounds Abound), came highly recommended from Nick’s friends Mike and Rob. During the dinner, Tony played the first dance songs from their weddings to thank them for the recommendation and even wore a purple tie to match Bethany’s color scheme!
Sheri Reda, the ceremony’s officiator, met with Bethany and Nick before the wedding to have the couple fill out a detailed Q&A on their relationship history and future goals, which she later incorporated into the ceremony. It also brought Bethany and Nick even closer together, as Bethany says, “Nick and I talked about our answers over a bottle of whine, which was a fun pre-wedding bonding activity.”
