An Elegant, Whimsical Desert Wedding at the Omni Scottsdale Resort & Spa at Montelucia in Scottsdale, Arizona

Neda Nikravan (33 and in global strategic marketing) lived across the hall from Lucas Thorson (31 and a sales account executive) in Scottsdale, Arizona, for nearly a year before they crossed paths and made a spontaneous run for late-night burritos. A few years later, they were engaged. A cross-country work opportunity presented a tight planning timeline, but Neda and Lucas created a memorable, colorful event in just three months. To showcase Arizona’s picturesque desert landscape, Neda and Lucas held an outdoor ceremony and reception for 100 guests at the Omni Scottsdale Resort & Spa at Montelucia in Scottsdale, Arizona. “I wanted pure elegance and simplicity,” says Neda, who chose contrasting tones for floral arrangements—ivory and pale blush blossoms were accented with deep crimson roses and green succulents. Lucas donned a deep navy suit, and the wedding party wore chic black ensembles (suits for the groomsmen and various black gowns for the bridesmaids). At the reception, string lights and tabletop candles provided an intimate setting against the naturally stunning backdrop of Camelback Mountain. “Planning the wedding in three months, although stressful, was definitely my style,” Neda says. “I didn't get bogged down in too many details. I went with my gut. I made decisions and moved forward—I had a feeling that everything was going to turn out just fine.” —Carolyn Meers

The simple ivory invitation suite by Be in Love Designs in Phoenix, Arizona, featured elegant calligraphy.
Lucas chose a sleek, deep navy suit from Men's Wearhouse that helped him stand out from his black-clad groomsmen.
Neda's five bridesmaids donned colorful dressing gowns as they prepped for her wedding to Lucas.
Neda found her A-line strapless gown at Mariee Bridal in Scottsdale, Arizona, and immediately knew it was the one. "When I said I wanted to order my dress, the attendant asked, 'Don't you want to call your bridesmaids or your Mom maybe and send them a picture?' I said, 'No, this is the one I like!'" Neda says.
Neda's bouquet, created by Kate Ryan Designs, included colorful pink and deep crimson flower blossoms as well as succulents (a nod to the desert setting).
"I asked the bridesmaids to choose any long, black, elegant dress that met their fancy," Neda says. "I wanted everyone to look great but also to express their personalities, which I love about my girls."
To add contrast to the black bridesmaid gowns, floral designer Kate Ryan created eye-catching bouquets using deep crimson and ivory roses accented with dusty green succulents.
To showcase Arizona’s picturesque desert landscape, Neda and Lucas held an outdoor ceremony and reception for 100 guests at the Omni Scottsdale Resort & Spa at Montelucia in Scottsdale, Arizona. Palm trees and Camelback Mountain served as a gorgeous backdrop for the day.
Under a luscious wedding arch topped with cascading greens and crimson hyacinths, Neda and Lucas combined different-colored crystals from Unity Crystals that represented each of their parents and themselves. These crystals were poured into a vase during the ceremony and would later be made into a sculpture for the couple to keep. "We loved the idea of doing something sentimental and something we could keep forever as a symbol of the ceremony," Neda says.
"The Montelucia was always one of our favorite places in the Scottsdale area, and we knew we wanted to share the beauty and ambience with all our friends and family so they could get to know us a little better.," says Neda.
The dinner reception was held outside at the Omni Scottsdale Resort & Spa at Montelucia in Scottsdale, Arizona, on the same lawn as the ceremony. Ivory table linens were contrasted with colorful centerpieces made with succulents and blush and crimson blossoms. String lights and tabletop candles added a romantic intimacy.
