An Elegant Winery Wedding at CrossKeys Vineyards in Mount Crawford, Virginia

With a love of wine, it was only fitting for Rachel Travitz (25 and a registered nurse) and Garrett Edwards (27 and a senior fluid analyst) to celebrate their nuptials at a beautiful Virginia winery. Their ceremony and reception was held at CrossKeys Vineyards in Mount Crawford with the Blue Ridge Mountains in the background. “We chose CrossKeys because of its sheer beauty,” Rachel says. “We knew we wouldn’t have to add much to make this pace the event of the year.” A short but sweet service included a wine-box ceremony (similar to a sand ceremony) and a poem reading. For the wine-box ceremony, both the bride’s and groom’s parents wrote letters to be read on the couple's fifth anniversary. They also placed a bottle of wine in the box to be shared while reading these letters. A color scheme of rich, dark purple, light green and gray suited the outdoor space and of course tied into the wine theme. Bridesmaids wore eggplant-colored gowns, and groomsmen accessorized with deep-purple-checked ties. White larkspur, hydrangeas and baby’s breath were carried throughout from the bouquets to the ceremony arrangements and dramatic table centerpieces. “Garrett and I loved the whimsical features of our flowers,” Rachel says. Rachel and Garrett added plenty of DIY touches throughout the celebration. Rachel's aunt created one-of-a-kind invites, with a watercolor grapevine as the border. And each place setting had an escort card placed in a cork. “All corks from 120 bottles of wine were happily drank by myself, my husband, our families and our friends when we would entertain,” Rachel says. Garrett then cut each cork by hand to create a holder for name cards. —Marissa Hermanson
