After a chance meeting at a Raleigh, North Carolina, bar, Vanessa (28 and a nurse) and Jonathon (30 and an Air Force officer) became inseparable. “I can't tell you why things happen the way they do, but the smallest events and most seemingly minute decisions can change your life forever,” Jonathon says. Vanessa and Jonathon said their vows before 100 guests on the rooftop of the Majestic Inn and Spa in Anacortes, Washington, which overlooks the San Juan Islands. “We both love the outdoors but didn't want our guests to have to hike up a mountain,” Vanessa says. “Bringing the outdoor feel to them was the next-best thing.” A pristine palette of navy and cream was paired with champagne gold and plenty of fresh green garlands, which served as centerpieces at the indoor reception’s banquet tables. Personalized touches like the reception’s communal seating, a choreographed first dance, and duck-tag favors (Jonathon is a duck hunter) made the elegant affair even more special. “Our entire wedding reflected us as a couple. We tried to make it personal and intimate,” says Vanessa, who advises other couples to enjoy the week before the wedding. “Yes, there's so much to do, but I am so glad we put things aside to spend time with our friends and celebrate why we were getting married to each other.” —Carolyn Meers

Jonathon proposed to Vanessa with this oval-cut diamond ring by Anacortes-based Whidbey Jewelers during Christmas in 2015. "When you find someone who is kind and beautiful and driven to chase their dreams, yet has the courage to date someone like me while I chase mine," says Jonathon, "Then you'd be a fool not to put a ring on it."
Vanessa gave each of her bridesmaids a custom-made floral-print dressing robe.
Jonathon, an officer in the Air Force, wore his navy military attire, while his groomsmen wore navy-colored Tommy Hilfiger suits and bow ties.
"I wanted my bridesmaids to feel just as beautiful that day, so I chose a form-fitting, floor-length champagne lace dresses, with a sweetheart neckline," Vanessa says. Each dress was handcrafted by Fashion Streets, a seamstress on Etsy.
"Since I was a little girl I knew I wanted a ballroom dress for my wedding," says Vanessa, who found her long-sleeve lace Daalarna Couture dress at Emma and Grace Bridal Studio in Denver, Colorado. "I loved the timeless, feminine, whimsical feeling it gave me."
Continuing the romantic theme, Vanessa paired her elegant long-sleeve lace gown with a full bouquet of white roses, hydrangeas, and leafy greenery crafted by Shamay of Flowers by Shamay.
Guests enjoyed a spectacular view of the San Juan Islands as Vanessa and Jonathon said their vows at Majestic Inn and Spa in Anacortes, Washington.
Vanessa and Jonathon wed on the rooftop of the Majestic Inn & Spa, which overlooked the San Juan Islands and Guemes Channel.
"Instead of traditional cake, we wanted to serve mini-pies in a variety of flavors," says Vanessa, who chose festive berry pies from Knock Out Bakery in Anacortes, Washington.
"I requested all tables to be arranged as long rectangular banquet tables and for everyone in the bridal party to sit together at a head table," Vanessa says. "I wanted an intimate family-seating feeling. All tables were lined with matching garlands and candles."
"Woodland romance sums up our wedding theme," says Vanessa, whose long-sleeve lace ball gown was a perfect match for Jonathon's military dress blues.
