An English and Vintage-Inspired Wedding at The Bristol in Chicago, Illinois

After meeting on in 2010, John Findlay (32 and a sous chef) and Lisa Pusateri (27 and an oncology nurse) met for their first date at The Bristol – a low-key restaurant nestled in the heart of Wicker Park. What the complete strangers didn't know, however, was that they were having dinner at the site of their future wedding reception. Three years later, John and Lisa got engaged after Christmas when the bride-to-be found an unexpected note in her stocking. "I found a note inside that read 'Will you marry me?' and when I turned around, John was on one knee," she says. Inspired by romantic, vintage elements; John's English roots also played a part in their big day at The Bristol – including the bride's shoe choice."I wore Union Jack heels and asked that all female guests wear a hat or fascinator to the ceremony since it's an English tradition," Lisa says. Vintage books adorned each dining table while a muted color palette of pale pink, gray and plum invoked a romantic, yet relaxed feel at the restaurant where it all started. "The whole day was so relaxed and fun," Lisa says. "I only cried once during the ceremony – mainly because John was making me laugh so hard that our guests began laughing along with us."
