Emily Blair (27 and the co-founder of KITE) and Lanyon Blair (29 and a financial analyst) met at a bar in New York City through a mutual friend while watching Sunday football. As luck would have it, they lived across the street from one another, so they continued to see each other over the next week. One week later, they went on their first date and sealed the deal. Lanyon proposed on Emily’s 26th birthday in the couple’s first apartment together in NYC. (Emily quickly responded “Yes!”) After exploring a summertime destination, the couple decided that Emily’s backyard in Bedford, New York, would be the perfect backdrop for their wedding. For the d?cor Emily wanted to combine a lot of texture with a simple color palette to reflect the natural beauty of the backyard. Emily and Lanyon pulled together a team of vendors who would help bring their vision to life, including Emily’s longtime friend and neighbor as the florist and the Erik Marshall Band of Hank Lane to keep their guests on the dance floor all night. The couple also created much of the decor with their families, including the Thai silk tablecloths and the escort card display, for which Emily’s father lay cut birch branches on a bed of moss and added slits for the cards. The whole wedding was a personal and intimate reflection of the couple and a celebration of love with their favorite people in the world.

Emily knew she wanted lace, so when her mother pointed out the Monique Lhullier dress to her, she went to L’Elite Bridal boutique in Boston. It was the first dress she tried on, and she was hooked.
The couple lit sky lanterns, paper lanterns that are typically released at festivals and other celebrations. Emily and Lanyon snuck away to light the first lantern, and then several more were lit behind the tent. The lanterns were used as a way to let the guests know to move into the reception tent.
Emily’s father created the concept for the escort card table, in which he cut down birch branches and added slits for the escort cards, which were beautifully displayed on a bed of moss.
Banchet created three floral arrangements that were spread evenly on dining tables and lit from above and below. They were nine silver votive candles and five pillar candles to create a very soft, warm look. Emily and her parents hand sewed all the Thai silk tablecloths for the reception tables.
The couple brought in six full-size birch trees illuminated by small white lights around the branches.
