An Intimate, Bohemian Backyard Wedding at a Private Residence in East Tawas, Michigan

Even though they're San Diego natives, Maggie McKay and Evan Goebels wed at the bride's family cottage in East Tawas, Michigan. Their guest list had just 10 people in their immediate families. Maggie centered the color palette around "one of my very favorite roses, which ranges from dark blush buds to a pale, creamy mustard in the center when fully opened," she says. "We wanted the day to feel formal but relaxed, and ensure our families were able to enjoy the area as much as we do." The ceremony took place on a dock overlooking Lake Huron. Evan's brother officiated, and a simple floor-mounted flower arch anchored the space. "I wanted to use flowers to bring in deeper blush and peach tones, making the palette a little more complex," Maggie, who works as a florist, says. "I like to keep my designs pretty organic and loose with a lot of texture, which complemented the setting we were in." Evan's parents made a meal that included abalone, Brussels sprouts and wine from a favorite vineyard. The dinner table, dressed with ivory linens, a chiffon runner, wood folding chairs and traditional brass and crystal candlesticks, also overlooked the water. Every detail was DIY, from the tablescape to the rustic bar, which was made by Maggie's dad and brother years ago. The bride wore a simple bohemian dress with off-the-shoulder sleeves and lace details, while Evan went with a tan linen suit.
