Having grown up visiting Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, as a child, Rachel Farley (30 and a physical therapist) knew the area’s sandy beaches and breathtaking ocean views would make a stunning backdrop for her and Dave Silowka’s (31 and an engineer) spring wedding. The Rehoboth Beach Country Club hosted the elegant affair, instantly winning the couple over with its stately ballroom and panoramic vistas of Rehoboth Bay. Through their decor, Rachel and Dave hoped to re-create the intimate, romantic feel of the gardens at the French Laundry in Napa Valley, California, where the pair celebrated their engagement. Arrangements of full, classic blooms like roses, peonies and ranunculus paired with whimsical flourishes and a soft palette of blush, green, ivory, white and gold brought an ethereal, garden-inspired quality to the Rehoboth Beach Country Club’s ballroom, while strings of fairy lights and lots of soft candlelight infused the room with undeniable warmth and ambiance. Bayberry Flowers created two centerpieces for the tables, to infuse the room with texture and depth, giving guests the impression that they were walking through a lush, spring garden. The couple exchanged vows out the country club’s lawn overlooking the bay, then whisked guests away into the ballroom for a night of dinner and dancing. A photo booth packed with plenty of playful props provided guests with hours of endless entertainment, plus a keepsake for the couple to remember the night. A tip from Rachel and Dave: “Make it a point to stay together during the reception. There are so many people there who want to talk to you and it's easy to get pulled into different conversations. Before you know it, you haven’t spent any time together. When we talked to guests we did it together. We got drinks together and we went to the dance floor together.”

When it came to finding her dress, Rachel knew she wanted romance and elegance with an unexpected twist. Hayley Paige’s Star gown offered the Delaware native just that. The ethereal A-line number looked as though it had been sprinkled with stardust, with intricate bead and crystal embellishments running from the strapless sweetheart bodice to the airy tulle skirt. “I loved the airy feel of the tulle and the dress was lightweight enough to be comfortable,” Rachel says. “Plus, it was so much fun to twirl in.”

Rachel and Dave’s nephews served as their ring bearers, walking down the aisle wearing formal, vintage-inspired ensembles. Matching the groomsmen suits, the boys donned black trousers, crisp white button-downs, black bow ties and suspenders, which they paired with Converse sneakers and gray flat caps. The older of their two nephews carried a hand-lettered chalkboard sign that said “Here comes the bride,” while their younger nephew carried a toy airplane. “The airplane wasn’t panned, but was used as an attempt to keep him from crying,” Rachel says.

When she and Dave visited Rehoboth Beach Country Club in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, they were instantly won over by the elegant ballroom’s panoramic vistas of Rehoboth Bay. Rachel and Dave exchanged vows on edge of the bay, a spot that allowed their families and friends to take in the beautiful seaside views. “Although our wedding took place in our home state, we felt like it was almost a destination beach wedding for us and our guests since many came from out of town to attend the wedding,” Rachel says.
Before DJ Dave Stocklos of Synergetic Sound got the party started with a lively mix of '60s, '70s and top 40 songs, Rachel and Dave took to the floor for their first dance. The couple chose Norah Jones’s “The Nearness of You,” a song that perfectly captured their love and personalities. “Norah Jones has the sweetest voice and we both love piano, which is the only instrument playing in this song,” Rachel says.
Rachel’s sister and five closest friends stood by her side. Wanting the women to feel comfortable and confident, she had them choose their own dresses from the J.Crew bridesmaid line. They all agreed on a soft, dusty shale hue, which created a cohesive feel for their look. They also selected their own gold, open-toe shoes, and Rachel gave them Kate Spade “Secret Garden” stud earrings and Givenchy gold bangles with Swarovski crystals to wear.

Re-creating the romantic garden scene at the French Laundry in Napa Valley, California, where Rachel and Dave celebrated their engagement was key when it came to the decor, and the florists at Bayberry Flowers didn’t disappoint. They created two different centerpieces for the tables, both tall and low, which gave the room an element of texture and depth and made guests feel as though they were walking through a quaint garden. Each arrangement boasted full, white blooms like roses, peonies, lisianthus, larkspur and lace flowers accented with lush greenery and seeded eucalyptus.

As a thank-you to their guests, Rachel and Dave placed small jars of Stonewall Kitchen strawberry jam at each seat. “We thought the jams would go perfectly with our garden theme and fit with our color palette,” Rachel says. “We also love food—including jam. Hardly anyone forgot to take theirs home, so they must have liked them.”
