An Intimate Island Wedding at Merriam's in Maui, Hawaii

When it came to planning their wedding, Tara Margolis (27 and a personal assistant) was all for a destination affair, while Matt Wozniak (31 and a mortgage broker) was more on the fence. They decided to make a deal, they would have a destination wedding, but Matt could choose the location. He decided on Maui and after doing some research, picked the Kapalua Villas to host the event. The location could not have been more appropriate, just a few months earlier, Matt popped the question on another tropical island — Palawan in the Philippines — getting down on one knee at a secluded waterfall they discovered at the end of an epic hike through the jungle. With the location and venue all squared away, the couple started working on their vision for the day. “I would describe our wedding style as romantic with a touch of whimsy,” says Tara. “One of my favorite aspects of the wedding was the flowers. Dellables did an incredible job of taking my ideas and turning them in a dream.” The bouquets were a mixture of coral, peach, pink, and white peonies, roses, ranunculuses and tropical flowers. For the reception, the tables featured many of the same flowers along with an ivy and eucalyptus garland and rose petals running the length of the table. Subtle touches like whitewashed wood boxes, gold mercury vases and linen runners tied everything together. After an intimate ceremony on the beach, with their toes in the sand, the couple and their guests headed to Merriam’s for the reception, enjoying a cocktail hour overlooking the water and appetizers like Seared Ahi Tuna with Daikon and Avocado Citrus Mousse, Asian Shrimp Fritters with Coriander Creme Fraiche and Lime and Mini Maui Cattle Filet with Applewood Bacon. The band Barefoot Minded played during both the ceremony and reception, setting the mood and getting everyone ready for a night of celebrating. After sunset, they headed indoors for a dinner of Warm Crusted Surfing Goat Cheese, "Poke Cut" Ahi and Avocado Salad and a choice of Macadamia Nut Crusted Monchong or Filet Mignon. And for dessert there was a selection of mini cupcakes, tarts and cookies by Baked by Amy.
