Steph Michal (29 and an internal medicine resident) and Nick Bruns (29 and a general surgery resident) used the surrounding landscape on the island of Maui, Hawaii, to mold their tropical elopement combined with a classic style. They held their intimate wedding at Kukahiko Estate—a small family-owned property with gorgeous surrounding views of the ocean. The day began at the outdoor lawn ceremony, where Steph and Nick stood with a gorgeous backdrop of the island waters behind them. Steph wore a white strapless wedding dress with a layered tulle skirt, while Nick sported a black tuxedo with a black bow tie—staying fairly traditional with Western cultural attire. But after the ceremony (which included a lei exchange), Steph and Nick rocked a tropical look with their Hawaiian flower necklaces for the celebration. An intimate cocktail hour and reception took place on the estate's patio, where Steph, Nick and their four guests sat at a white dining table decorated with candelabras. We loved the adorable cake served at the end of the meal—a two-tier white cake rimmed with gold at the bottom, topped with a bride-and-groom penguin figurine set. Steph wore a white strapless dress with a sweetheart neckline and a layered tulle skirt, which elegantly ruffled down to the floor. She paired the traditional dress with a fingertip-length tulle veil.
Steph held an elegant round bouquet filled with a classic arrangement of flowers: blush and white roses mixed with white lilies. The flowers went along with her traditional white dress as she walked down the aisle.
Steph and Nick stood on the edge of the lawn at Kukahiko Estate, where their ceremony took place. They had chosen Maui, Hawaii, for their honeymoon location, but then decided to combine the trip with an elopement.
Steph and Nick took part in a lei exchange during their ceremony outside at Kukahiko Estate in Maui, Hawaii. During the Hawaiian tradition, they placed flower leis over each other, symbolic of love, affection and respect.
Steph and Nick stood on the rocky shores on the island of Maui, Hawaii. The beautiful landscape that surrounded them became the inspiration for their tropical wedding.
The reception took place on the patio of Kukahiko Estate, where an elegant chandelier hovered over the reception dining table. Candelabras holding up long white candlesticks created a romantic display for Steph, Nick and their guest list of four.
White roses decorated the top and sides of the two-tier cake, wrapped with gold at the bottom of each layer. An adorable penguin figurine set topped the cake, depicting a bride and groom with a heart-shaped sign that read "Steph & Nick."
Nick picked Steph up and twirled her around near the beachfront in Maui, Hawaii, where their tropical-themed wedding took place. Steph's tulle skirt bunched at the bottom, showing the many layers that made up the elegant dress.
