An Intimate, Vibrant Wedding at the Sheraton Kauai Resort in Kauai, Hawaii
For their wedding, Cathleen Barker (27 and a sales manager) and Dave Maucere (33 and a business analytics manager) planned an intimate destination affair with their closest family members and friends in Kauai, Hawaii. “The whole reason we decided to get married in Kauai was because I wanted to be married in the chapel at St. Raphael’s which was built in 1854,” says Cathleen. “My maternal grandparents spent half of the year on Kauai and St Raphael’s has been a special place for me every time I visit.” The day started with a traditional Catholic ceremony, which the couple was able to customize with their own vows and a traditional Hawaiian slack key guitarist. Bright tropical blooms, like orchids, ginger and giant protea lit up the quaint church and captured the essence of the island locale.
The reception took place in a private room of the Rum Fire restaurant at the Sheraton Resort in Poipu, Kauai. The intimate space afforded the couple and their guest breathtaking views of the water and surrounding sandy white beaches. “As we were such a small party, everyone was able to order off the regular menu, which was also great as everyone could get what they wanted,” says Cathleen. To put their personal stamp on the decor, Cathleen and Dave topped the table with vibrant arrangements of roses, ranunculuses, orchids, giant protea, pincushion flowers and palm leave, which a punch of bright color to the waterfront room. Hawaiian-inspired frames with the name of each guest were placed at each seat and doubling as place cards and souvenirs. A tip for the taking from Cathleen and Dave: “To future couples I would say have the wedding of your dreams, not of what everyone else thinks you should do. Getting married in Hawaii is not what most of our close-knit extended family expected us to do, but it was what we as a couple wanted and it was perfect.”
