An earthy color palette and organic touches put a sophisticated spin on Micaha Dean and Austin Hughes’s fall fete in Lexington, Kentucky. “Fall in Kentucky is gorgeous, and we were inspired by the colors of the season,” Micaha says.

The festivities unfolded in a historic tobacco barn tucked away in the idyllic countryside. Twinkling bistro lights and a dramatic chandelier suspended from the barn’s exposed wood beams offered an elegant contrast to rustic setting. The couple kept the décor simple for their “I dos,” adding wreaths and bows of eucalyptus to the aisle.

To personalize the ceremony, Micaha and Austin wrote their own vows and invited their family members to participate in a handfasting tradition.

The tented reception was teeming with fresh greenery—potted plants framed the dance floor, cascading wreaths hung from the ceiling and the head tables were draped with garlands of fragrant eucalyptus. Vintage brass candlesticks baring gray taper candles were woven throughout, their golden light casting a warm, romantic glow over the room.

“We tried to be very intentional about our DIY décor. Austin is a graphic designer, and he designed all of the wedding signage,” Micaha says. “Some were printed and others were hand-painted by me.”

Major fans of the local food scene, Micaha and Austin wanted to treat their guests to some of their favorite Lexington flavors. The pair hired food trucks from Minton’s at 760 and J. Render’s BBQ and served up their go-to eats from each. The newlyweds also cracked open a bottle of bourbon that they had buried the night before to keep bad weather at bay—a Southern tradition. “Everyone got to warm up by passing the bottle around during the fun on the dance floor,” the bride says. “We signed it at the end of the night, and it’s on a shelf at our venue. While it didn’t keep the cold away, it didn’t snow until after we left for our honeymoon, so we think it still worked!”
