An Outdoor, Garden Wedding at the Perry Hotel in Petoskey, Michigan

Although newlyweds Amy (27 and a freelance writer) and Taylor (28 and a biology and physiology instructor) grew up in neighboring towns in northern Michigan, the two didn't meet until a mutual friend set them up at a birthday party in Chicago. "He proposed three years later, the night we moved into our first apartment together," Amy says. With a summer garden wedding in mind, the couple wed in the bride's hometown of Petsokey at the Perry Hotel downtown. "It's only a five minute walk from my parent's house," the bride explains. Both the formal ceremony and reception took place in the rose garden overlooking Lake Michigan -- a venue that didn't need much decoration thanks to its abundance of bright blooms. While the bride wore a one-shoulder, cream, silk taffeta gown, it was the string of pearls around her neck that held tremendous significance. "It was my great-grandmother's pearl necklace," Amy says. "The same one that my grandmother, mother and aunts all wore on the day they said 'I do'."
