An Outdoor Wedding at Stone Eagle Retreat in Malibu, California

Greg Fullerton (29 and a business manager) and Michael Louten (57 and a law firm docketing specialist) brought their loved ones to Stone Eagle Retreat in Malibu, California, to celebrate their marriage amid the natural beauty of Malibu Canyon. “We chose this location because we wanted to find a large enough place to accommodate our out-of-town guests, and the beautiful seven-bedroom mansion located on the property fit perfectly,” Michael says. The grooms wore identical gray Mark Piscitelli suits and walked hand in hand down the flower-petal-lined aisle to a gazebo with sweeping canyon views. The Purple Iris Events provided yellow and white flowers, including Michael’s favorite yellow roses, which symbolize purity and friendship to the couple. Greg and Michael also placed orchids throughout the mansion for their guests to take home at the end of their wedding. Michael recalls a special moment from the day: “We felt more as a couple the moment we walked into the reception area listening to the applause from our guests,” he says. The couple introduced their family and closest friends, and cut loose with their guests on the black-and-white-checkered dance floor. A wedding cake covered in sugar cherry blossoms sweetened the evening with a custom cake topper that looked just like the grooms.

The wedding ceremony took place outdoors on one of the smaller lawn areas of the estate overlooking the mountains of Malibu canyon. The flowers decorated around the gazebo consisted of white lilies, yellow roses, snapdragons, ranunculus and orchids with scattered rose petals down the aisle.
“Our color choices for the ceremony and reception were yellow, white and black,” Michael says. The flowers were white and yellow, to symbolize purity and friendship. Michael’s favorite flower is the yellow rose, so Greg wore one in his boutonniere. Michael’s boutonniere was a white plumeria.
Greg and Michael leisurely strolled up from the mansion toward the wedding area, holding hands, to a gazebo covered in yellow and white flowers.
Greg and Michael got married in Malibu, California, on a 24-acre estate called Stone Eagle Retreat. “We chose this location because we wanted to find a large enough place to accommodate our out-of-town guests, and the beautiful seven-bedroom mansion located on the property fit perfectly,” Michael says.
Greg and Michael purchased several orchids for their guests, and displayed them throughout the mansion. Guests could choose any orchids they wished to take home with them.
The outdoor reception area provided guests with a broad view of the canyon. The couple introduced their immediate family members and closest friends as they walked down the main staircase to guests waiting on the main floor.
“We felt more as a couple the moment we walked into the reception area listening to the applause from our guests.” The reception decor was black and white, including a classic checkered dance floor.
Greg and Michael’s wedding cake featured a custom cake topper designed to look just like them. The wedding cake was three round ivory tiers with a decorative cherry tree branch and sugar flowers adding a sweet romantic touch.
