An Romantic Garden Wedding at The Place on the Lake in East Brunswick, New Jersey

Timeless mauve, gray, cream and gold hues brought Sadaf Ali (31 and a municipal credit analyst) and Timothy James (TJ) Morbelli’s (33 and a corporate credit trader) rustic-glam nuptials to life.

The ceremony was held under a draped pergola, flanked by soaring sprays of branches and clusters of white flowers. “Since this was the first time most of my Pakistani family and friends were going to attend a ceremony in this manner, I wanted to make sure it was going to be an experience for them,” Sadaf says.

Because peonies, Sadaf’s favorite flower, aren’t available in August, the couple substituted the fluffy bloom with garden roses in ivory and blush for the bridal bouquet.

“I wanted to create an environment for the guests where they felt transported somewhere completely outside of the city,” Sadaf said of the ceremony.

Sadaf’s mother and younger sister picked out her wedding dress on a trip to Pakistan. Working with her criteria of a one-piece gown in mauve or dusty rose and detail work in both gold and silver, the two had a dress handmade. Due to the gown’s intricate beading, the final creation weighed 15 pounds.

After weeks of searching for the perfect design and coming up blank, Sadaf created their floral invitation suite herself.

The four-tier wedding cake, which housed classic red velvet as well as vanilla with Nutella frosting, was covered with buttercream ruffles and finished with a cascade of fresh pink roses and ivy. The escort cards were displayed in metal branch frames, which also served as favors.
