An Rustic, Winter Wedding at The Barn at Gibbet Hill in Groton, Massachusetts

Though Kim Thomasch (29 and a teacher) and Justin Metzger (29 and a software developer) now call New York City home, the pair knew a Big Apple wedding just wasn’t there style. With Justin hailing from a farm in Pennsylvania and Kim from Massachusetts, a New England wedding with plenty of rustic flair seemed like the perfect fit. The couple planned a classic, rustic affair at the Barn at Gibbet Hill in Groton, Mass. with a cool color palette of icy blue, snow white and pops of cheerful purple. The barn’s post and beam structure, wood paneling and stately chandeliers provided a charming country backdrop for the day, while decorative touches like woodland-inspired stationery and a sweet owl cake topper played up the wedding’s wintry vibe. The day started with a traditional ceremony in the barn, followed by a cocktail hour on the venue’s heated deck, where guests sipped on signature cocktails like “Barnyard Sin” and “Winter White Cosmopolitan.” The newlyweds ushered their families and friends back into the barn for dinner and dancing, where fresh bunches of hydrangeas, Gerbera daisies, delphiniums and more in shades of white, blue and purple topped the tables, bring a fresh feel to the warm, inviting space. The couple took guests on a trip down memory lane with a heritage table featuring vintage family wedding photos and table numbers boasting photos of the couple as children. Groove Authority kept the dance floor packed all night long and at the end of the night Kim and Justin sent guests home with hot, freshly made cider doughnuts, a New England favorite.
