An Ultra-Sophisticated Traditional Indian Wedding at The Heldrich Hotel in New Brunswick, New Jersey
Oindrila Sardar (works in marketing) and Vikas "Vik" Pathani’s (works in finance) traditional Indian wedding was nothing short of ornate sophistication with their red, fuchsia and gold color palette. Oindrila wore a traditional red and gold Benarasi sari, a veil and gold jewelry for the Hindu ceremony, and, for the reception, she changed into a fuchsia and gold Lengha, which took months to design and weighed more than 12 pounds! Wanting to combine Bengali and Sindhi rituals throughout the ceremony (to honor both of their backgrounds) the groom started the ceremony with a Baraat where he rode in on a horse while his family escorted him with music and dancing. Oindrila made her entrance being carried in on a wooden stool with her eyes covered by two betel leaves (a Bengali tradition), and, at the ceremony, Vik placed a mangalsutra (a necklace) around Oindrila’s neck (a Sindhi tradition). The red and gold mandap was decorated with red flower garland at the back and red flower pomander chandeliers. For dinner, they chose catering from Bukhara Grill for an authentic Indian food menu, which Bukhara Grill was even willing to customize to the couple’s?specific requests. Both the ceremony and reception were at The Heldrich Hotel because Oindrila and Vik loved that they could have the ceremony and reception in the same place and that it would host their out-of-town guests. Although the couple planned most of the wedding themselves, they use Elite Event Management as their day-of coordinator to make sure they got hitched without a hitch.
