Boho Lovers, This Texas Wedding at The Greenhouse at Driftwood in All You Ever Wanted

Inspired by the natural landscape of Texas, Sarah and Grant tied the knot in a bohemian wedding at The Greenhouse at Driftwood. A palette of terracotta, sage green, dusty blue and marigold punctuated the day while dramatic texture from pampas grass, rattan and wood added to the laid-back aesthetic. "We wanted to ensure the day felt like ours, so while we relied on vendors for most of the heavy lifting we also added a few homemade (escort cards and invitations) and local elements (Lick ice cream truck!) to the day. We really wanted our wedding to feel like a group of friends getting together for a garden party or an outdoor meal—comfortable, not stuffy and fun! We made all of our decisions from a place of trying to create an atmosphere of enjoyment rather than tradition so that we could really keep our special day true to ourselves. It was amazing hearing from our guests about how magical and beautiful they felt the location was throughout the night. Our final guest count hovered around 100—enough people for a party, but intimate enough for the day to feel relaxed." shares Sarah.

The celebration's floral designs played a big role in bringing the relaxed, boho vision to fruition. "Our florals were inspired by the natural Texas landscape and our overall aim was natural, organic and whimsical," says Sarah. "We used a lot of pampas, dahlias, ferns, toffee and mauve roses, hellebore and larkspur. My bouquet was an arrangement of soft, ruffled blooms in bold yet muted shades of Moroccan spice with contrasting earth-toned accents, ferns, seasonal grass and foraged texture. It had effortless movement and organic flow, harmonizing with the natural surroundings of the Greenhouse and finished with a complimenting shade of naturally dyed silk ribbon. I also added one of my grandmother's brooches to the bouquet as my "something old" and it allowed me to have her close to us during the day despite her passing a few years ago. Grant’s boutonniere was thoughtfully designed to compliment my bouquet and contrast his green suit, featuring textured blooms, grass and fern for accent, finished with silk ribbon and pearl pins."

Sarah and Grant's big day began with an outdoor vow exchange set against a backdrop of the venue's greenhouse space. "Our ceremony was al fresco and we wanted the aisle to complement, not compete with the natural landscape of the venue," explains Sarah. "We opted for an abundance of pampas grass, roses and dahlias in hues of terracotta, sage green and marigold. Davy Gray was our florist who made our aisle and altar dreams come to life with uneven, organic blooms exploding from the ground and pampas grass framing us during the ceremony. For the altar, we had two large-scale, high reaching, asymmetrical arrangements with textural green and floral bases that taper up into fluffy pampas and seasonal grasses slightly arching overhead. The aisle was adorned with various sizes of growing style arrangements featuring eclectic textures and mixed foliage topped with explosions of neutral, fluffy grass plumes in a zig-zag placement marking every few rows. We kept our ceremony short and sweet (and non-denominational) as neither of us likes to be the center of attention and had our friend Andrew officiate. Despite foregoing a wedding party, we had our family members process before us—including our four adorable nephews who were ushered down the aisle by their Grandpa Stu as our ring bearers! We also had our sisters participate in the ceremony by each sharing a reading on love and/or marriage. Terra Vista Strings played during the processional and recessional, providing a gorgeous backdrop to elevate the feel of the ceremony. We worked with them to align on a custom set of songs from a few of our favorite artists such as Ra Ra Riot, Imogen Heap and Talking Heads. While we are thankful there was no rain, it was upwards of 80 degrees outside (typical Texas 'fall') so everyone was a bit sweaty by the time the ceremony was over and were glad it was quick. During our recessional, our guests showered us with dried flowers and cheers which was one of the best moments of the entire day," says Sarah of her and Grant'swedding ceremony at The Greenhouse at Driftwood in Texas.

Following their vow exchange, Sarah and Grant welcomed guests to a tented reception to continue the celebration. The space was filled with chic, boho furniture furthering the relaxed vibe that permeated the Texas wedding day. "Our reception took place under a gorgeous tent from Whim Hospitality with vintage pieces from LOOT Rentals including rattan cage lighting, a bar front and a sweetheart table and cobra chairs. For the sweetheart table, we had a simple scattering of low votive candles for the tabletop and repurposed a number of ceremony pieces around the table to create a stunning alcove for us to share our first meal as husband and wife," shares Sarah. "For our guest's tables, we had a mix of centerpiece styles using pin frogs to ensure each piece was completely unique and fluid in shape and style. Half the tables featured wispy centerpieces in low terra cotta bowls. The remaining tables, as well as the cocktail tables, showcased a variety of earthy yet modern decor such as terracotta and stone bud vases, ceramic saucers and complimentary colored taper candles with votives for all tables. We brought our color palette to life on our guest tables with the prettiest chinoiserie plates, dusty grey chargers and terracotta napkins from Premiere Events," notes Sarah of the boho decor seen throughout her wedding reception at The Greenhouse at Driftwood. Sarah goes on to share that her first dance with Grant was "something we had been practicing at home for a few weeks and were excited (but nervous) to show off! We danced to 'Real Love Baby' by Father John Misty and nailed all three of our moves. After our first dance, each of our parents gave some very sweet toasts as our delicious family-style dinner from Royal Fig was served. Instead of slicing cake, we opted to have the Lick ice cream truck at our reception and fed each other bites of ice cream for dessert. From there, the real party began! We were so happy to finally spend more time with our guests that had traveled from near and far to celebrate with us. DJ Gatsby did an incredible job at reading the room and keeping everyone on the dance floor, while also honoring some of our favorite songs we shared with him before the event."

Sarah and Grant brought personalized details into many of the elements of their Texas wedding day, ensuring the entire celebration felt uniquely their own. "We wanted to ensure the day felt like ours, so while we relied on vendors for most of the heavy lifting we also added a few homemade and local elements to the day. We really wanted tile escort cards but they were too expensive to source, so we bought some 'imperfect' bathroom tiles from a salvage yard and hand-painted each one of them ourselves! We also designed all of the signage and paper products ourselves, mostly on Minted.com. Additionally, we wanted to make sure that our guests could take home a unique reminder of our special day but wanted to do something small as most of our guests traveled across the U.S. to attend our wedding, so we designed custom playing cards as wedding favors. Grant and I are such big board game and card lovers that we felt this was the perfect way to commemorate the day and give something to. our guests as a thank you for attending our wedding. Still, a year later our guests are sending us photos of them traveling the world with their decks of cards! One of our favorite elements of the day was foregoing a wedding cake and instead opting to have the Lick Ice Cream truck serve unlimited scoops during our reception. Again, Grant and I LOVE ice cream much more than cake or other treats, so we felt this desert was much more true to our union and was the perfect ending to a hot Texas day!" says Sarah.
