For their downtown San Francisco wedding, Alastair Cleve (25 and an attorney/financial strategist) and James Wong (28 and a senior product manager) drew inspiration from Hotel Vitale’s contemporary aesthetic and Alastair’s favorite book, 'The Great Gatsby.' The result was an updated art-deco vibe the couple referred to as “modernist Gatsby” brought to life with a classic color scheme of dark blue, gold and lilac, all softened with white blooms. Everything, from their signature cocktails -- the "Long Island Express" and "The Duesenberg" -- to their custom three-piece suits based on the ones Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire wore in the 2013 film adaptation of the novel, reflected the style and spirit of the roaring '20s.

The ceremony took place on the terrace of Hotel Vitale, with the aisle simply decorated with small circular glass vases and two orchid arrangements at the front.

Tall flower arrangements decorated the terrace, with a mix of purple and white orchids and ivory hydrangeas.
Circular glass vases were filled to the top with water and had stones, fern and orchids inside of them. These arrangements served as aisle decorations at the ceremony.

“Our suits were based off of two suits worn by Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire in the 2013 film version of 'The Great Gatsby,'” says Alastair.

Both the wedding ceremony and reception took place on the terrace at Hotel Vitale in San Francisco.
Guests were invited to either write a handwritten message to the couple or type a message on the antique typewriter available to use at the wedding. “A friend of mind, Jillian Schrager, bound a guest book for our wedding, with messages from our guests written by pen or antique typewriter,” says Alastair.

“We quickly became interested in Hotel Vitale -- a young, fresh hotel that offered the opportunity to have our wedding on outdoor terraces overlooking the Ferry Building, Oakland Bay Bridge and San Francisco skyline,” says Alastair.
On dining tables, circular glass vases were filled with water and purple or white orchids. The centerpieces were surrounded by gold candles. “Our color palette consisted of dark blue, gold and lilac, offset by white flowers,” says Alastair. “We were interested in making a strong association to the 'Gatsby' era while still respecting the modern setting of Hotel Vitale.”
The top and bottom tier of the wedding cake was covered in navy, and the middle tear was white with swirls of gold. A single gold cake flower decorated the side of the cake.
