Colorful Sri Lankan and Jamaican Fusion Wedding at Miami Beach Botanical Garden in Florida
Adrienne Bown (34 and a brand manager) and Jeevan Nanayakkara’s (35 and a project manager) wedding combined their respective Jamaican and Sri Lankan cultures—but with a personalized twist. “We basically created a remix,” Adrienne says. “It set the tone for how we’ll move forward as a new family unit.” The result? A cross-cultural celebration that included a Sri Lankan necklace exchange and blessing ceremony, old-school reggae hits and loads of funky, tropical details. "Jamaican and Sri Lankan wedding traditions are similar in that you gift your guests a piece of cake,” Adrienne says. Friends and fam got slices of Adrienne’s mom’s rum-soaked black cake and a brandied fruit cake from Sri Lanka, plus a caramel, rum and cookies-and-cream cake with buttercream filling. The couple served jerk chicken skewers and chickpea samosas at cocktail hour, then switched it up with Thai food for the main meal, when Adrienne slipped into a traditional Sri Lankan sari.
