Eclectic Blue-and-Orange Wedding With Nods to Baseball at the Baltimore Museum of Industry in Maryland
Ebise Bayisa (38 and an attorney) and Dana Anderson (42 and an IT support manager) wanted guests to know that their celebration wouldn’t be an ordinary wedding, but rather an epic dance party. Ebise carried a colorful mix of king protea, coral roses, anemones, blue thistle, white hypericum berries and eucalyptus while a classic mix of roses, lisianthus and eucalyptus decorated the ceremony spot on the Patapsco River. The Baltimore Museum of Industry’s exhibition space already had a lot going on, so Ebise and Dana kept their décor simple with mercury glass votives, coral napkins and centerpieces of Italian ruscus and eucalyptus. They drew inspiration for their bold blush, coral and navy invitation suite from concert ads and sent a save-the-date based on Baltimore’s iconic Domino Sugars sign. Dana is a die-hard Orioles fan, so the couple draped matching baseball jerseys with their wedding date on their chairs. On the day-of, their riverfront event didn’t disappoint —the duo hit the dance floor to the classic Ethiopian tune “Kaba,” (a nod to Ebise’s heritage), and the party went off from there. Bartenders poured from a selection of local brews, while an orange crush station made fresh-squeezed OJ for vodka cocktails. Guests dined under a 1937 Mini-Mariner, a prototype for a World War II boat bomber and enjoyed kitfo (chopped rare beef with clarified butter) and gomen (spiced collard greens), as well as Western dishes like chicken roulade.“Food is very important to my family and I wanted our guests to sample Ethiopian dishes,” Ebise says.
