A Vibrant Fuchsia-and-Indigo Color Palette Wowed at This Wedding at The Line Hotel in Washington, DC

If you've ever considered a jewel-tone wedding, consider this your sign to hostone. MacKenzie and Jesse's wedding at The Line Hotel in Washington, DC, is all the proof you need that punchy jewel tones are a great way to go for a wedding color palette. Shades of deep berry and vibrant fuchsia juxtaposed indigo blue in the couple's fresh, fun and totally beautiful color scheme.

MacKenzie shares that hiring an expert team, especially a wedding planner, was key to bringing her and Jesse's June wedding in Washington, DC, to life. "As soon as I got engaged I knew I needed a wedding planner," she says. "While I can be decisive and know what I like and dislike, there are too many choices in design, decor, and every other aspect of a wedding that it was overwhelming. After I found The Line Hotel and selected it to be our venue I got in touch with my planner, Sarah Kazemburg. Sarah had done another wedding at The Line, which was stunning. Rich jewel tones and beautiful florals made her November wedding stand out to me. Having picked a June date, Sarah suggested summer-izing that look and that became our main inspiration. Bright and deep pinks and rich blue tones. Outside of design, I was really focused on hosting a fun party. Delicious food, great band, and lots of dancing. We successfully accomplished that!"

Family is central to the couple and it was important to both MacKenzie and Jesse that they honor those relationships at the wedding. MacKenzie shares that when she was planning "my bridal party, it didn't make sense to have my brother, Nick, stand on Jesse's side. He's my person after all and he's there supporting me, so I asked him to be a bridesman. We lost our mom in 2018 and it was important that I found a way to honor her on my wedding day. I don't like corsages and had Jesse's mom carry a small bouquet down the aisle so similarly I had my brother carry my mom's bouquet down the aisle and had a seat reserved for her. I had a locket with her picture made for the bouquet and Nick 'walked her down the aisle.' Lisa caught a photo of Nick kissing the locket before placing the bouquet on the chair. That photo is one of my absolute favorites."

Following the ceremony, MacKenzieand Jesse welcomed guests to cocktail hour with a personal twist to their signature cocktail, a spicy margarita. The couple renamed it the “J-Mackarita” inspired by MacKenzie’s dad lovingly giving them the nickname “J-Mack” over the course of their relationship. As guests arrived at cocktail hour on the rooftop, the cocktails were displayed on a shelf with escort cards to double as their seating assignment while inviting them to “sip to their seat.”"It was a fun idea that came to life exactly as we were hoping it would," recalls MacKenzie.

However, before guests made their way to the reception, with drinks in hand, MacKenzie and Jesse got a VIP sneak peek at the space. "Jesse and I had a ballroom first look prior to the guests entering and I was completely blown away by how beautiful and full the tables were," recalls the bride. "Our guest tables had a variety of looks that helped to add bold prints to the space. We leaned into the various pink tones and there was such a wide variety of types of flowers.  Florals made the whole aesthetic of the ballroom perfect and the colors pop in the photos."

MacKenzie recalls that dancing the night away with loved ones was a particular highlights from the wedding. "Our band, 'Round Midnight, was suggested to me by a friend who had also worked with them. Due to Covid, I never had a chance to hear them live before booking so it felt like a risk, but I trusted my friend. I'm so glad I did. They were unbelievable! I still get comments from our guests a year later saying it was the best band they've heard. Best part, they were more affordable compared to other options in the area." MacKenzie goes on to share that in addition to actually dancing during the reception, simply observing all her loved ones was special for her. "I received advice prior to our wedding day that stands out as one of my favorite moments. I was advised that 'At one point during your reception when all your guests are dancing and enjoying themselves, step away with your partner to a corner or the ballroom entrance and just look around to see all of your loved ones celebrating you and having the best time.' It was a chance to slow the night down and have that special time just us to start to soak in what had happened and what we had to look forward to."
