Handfasting Ceremony Tradition

Aurielle and Dave did their own take on a handfasting ceremony. “We loved that tying the knot, bonds of matrimony and hand in marriage all come from this ancient ceremony,” Aurielle says. “We did our research and learned that hand fasting can be found in many ancient cultures from the Mayans to the Hindu Vedic and Celtic cultures. We decided to take this ancient tradition and make it our own. We had each member of our bridal party be part of the ceremony by having them tie a colored length of cord around our hands. Each cord was a different color, which was carefully selected for their meaning. For example, red represents will, love, strength, courage, health, vigor and passion.”
