Joy and Chris first met at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington, at the school's Hawaii Club and instantly clicked. He decided the perfect moment would be on Christmas Day at Joy's parents' house in California. Unfortunately, a couple days before his flight, Chris had to have an emergency appendectomy. Set on proposing that Christmas, he managed to fly one day after surgery to surprise Joy. As soon as he walked in the door of her parents' house, he showed her his stitches so she didn't think he was faking, and later that night, he proposed with a sparkling engagement ring. The couple later exchanged vows underneath gorgeous palm trees in Kapolei, Hawaii.
