Nathalie Darilek, 27 and a site merchandiser at RetailMeNot, Inc., met Sean Hegarty, 27 and a junior financial advisor at Southwest Securities, Inc., when Nathalie’s friend invited her to go out on Sean’s boat with friends while attending the University of Texas. After a fun day at the lake, they exchanged numbers and developed a friendship that soon blossomed into more. Seven years later, Sean proposed on top of the Tower at the University of Texas. Nathalie and Sean decided on the theme of “Vintage Rooftop Garden Party in Old Manhattan,” which incorporated each of their personal styles and was meaningful to them as a couple. Both Sean and Nathalie grew up in Austin, but lived in New York City together for the two years leading up to their engagement. “We love The City and wanted to bring a touch of Manhattan to our special day since this was an important chapter of our life together,” says Nathalie. Both she and Sean have an affinity to mid-century design and music, so they included vintage design details rather than a literal design interpretation of New York. They kept things romantic by layering in whimsical industrial New York touches, such as crystal deco chandeliers hung in the open air patio, metal tub chairs, the brick-laid aisle suggestive of a cobble-stone street, and a large NYC street scene canvas hung in the entry. Everywhere guests turned, they could see lavish greens with floral touches, which provided a pleasant fragrance throughout the rooms. The bounty of fresh, lush foliage combined with big city touches and a 15-piece band playing classic tunes transported guests right into a ritzy Manhattan rooftop garden party wedding.

All of the stationery items were cohesive from the save the dates and invitations to the welcome sign and seating chart. Nathalie and Sean met with the design artist and worked with her to bring their vision to paper. Everything was printed on ivory cardstock with variations of florals, laurel wreaths, vines and arrows, symbols of the garden party.
Nathalie knew she wanted her dress to have a unique look that was an expression of her personality. "Along with the lace bodice and tulle skirt I was envisioning, this style was tea-length and had a deep v-back. It had the perfect retro touch I was looking for and allowed me to show off my cute shoes," says Nathalie.
In place of a veil, Nathalie wore a crystal barrette she already owned. For her hairstyle, Nathalie knew she wanted an updo to show off her gown and not compete with the neckline and open back. "I made sure to convey that I wanted the look un-structured, airy and romantic," says Nathalie.
"Instead of opting for a classic pump or strappy sandal, I found a pair of peep toe leather and lace booties for a less expected look," says Nathalie. The ivory booties complimented her retro, vintage style of dress and theme.
Nathalie's loose and natural bouquet displayed a muted color palette of eucalyptus greens with pops of peach garden roses, white ranunculus and dahlias, dusty miller, bay laurel and Queen Ann's lace wrapped in a thin band of ivory lace.

Nathalie wore vintage-inspired crystal drop earrings—the same pair she gifted to each bridesmaid so they could all share one part of the retro look. Nathalie also attached a crystal-studded belt to attach to the waistline of the dress for added texture.
Nathalie and Sean have fond memories of relaxing outside together on the Austin Country Club's back patio, so it was both a beautiful and meaningful venue to have their wedding. "We wanted an outdoor wedding and knew the Austin Country Club had gorgeous and lush grounds just perfect for our garden party-inspired style."

Garlands of eucalyptus and bay laurel decorated the six grand chandeliers in the reception ballroom as well as the head table. For a whimsical, fresh, and unique feel, decor alternated between round tables with a textured ivory damask embossed linen and square tables with a textured ivory dotted embossed linen.

In place of table numbers, the reception table cards were named after places in New York: the head table was "Manhattan," and the others included iconic neighborhoods such as "Broadway," "Fashion District" and "Wall Street," tying in Nathalie and Sean's life in New York.
Silver Charger Plates at Elegant Reception
Nathalie and Sean's cake was four circle tiers frosted with textured ivory buttercream icing and stood atop an antiquated silver cake stand. "I wanted to keep my cake simple so the main focus would be on the fresh greenery and flowers and keep with our garden theme," says Nathalie. The cake topper was customized to look like the newlyweds and covered in eucalyptus, bay laurel and an olive branch arch over the top.
