Oatlands Historic House and Gardens Ceremony

For Julie and Michael, tradition was less important than finding ways to make the day feel reflective of their unique story. The pair asked a friend to officiate their ceremony, invited two of their closest friends to do the readings and incorporated an old family tradition—a joint breaking of glasses at the end of the ceremony—into the proceedings. “We wanted the ceremony to be light, fun and happy,” says Julie. “We also lit a candle given to us by my husband’s grandmother, who lives in Switzerland and couldn’t travel for the wedding.”
