Pastels and Plenty of Greenery Ensured This Sound River Studios Wedding in New York Was Full of Joy
Just like the Earth, Wind and Fire song, Johna and Tom were married on the 21st night of September at Sound River Studios in Long Island City, New York in a modern-meets-industrial celebration with an airy pastel color palette. Inspired by the juxtaposition of industrialism and modern minimalism seen in their venue, the twosome worked with their planner to create an "organic, cozy and hygge-vibe" for their nuptials. "The stark white, blank canvas of Sound River Studios was softened with moments of foliage and flora all over the space, designed to feel as if it was growing out of the walls and floors. Smilax wrapped around columns, foliage and blooms grew out from corners, doorways were outlined in branches and asymmetrical lines of bistro lights were covered in greenery," shares the couple's photographer.
The couple's aesthetic was first introduced via their stationery design. "The stationery suite captured the perfect mix of simplicity, color and fun. Typography was kept clean and bold and each piece of the suite was printed on card stock in the different shades of the color palette. The individual colors were tied together on the envelope liner with an original abstract design," created by their stationer, Johna and Tom's photographer notes.
Following their vow exchange underneath a greenery-covered chuppah, the couple's space was flipped during cocktail hour into an intimate reception setup. Once guests were invited back into the main space for dinner, it had been transformed to feel like a cozy dinner party. "Large rows of wood farm tables were decorated with a runner of glass bud vases, ikebana-style arrangements and nude tapers in brass candlesticks holders. Each setting included a simple black bistro chair, simple white china, black flatware and an ivory linen napkin topped off with a menu, spring of green, and place cards in alternating shades of the color palette. In the corner overlooking the skyline, an eclectic lounge was set with velvet sofas and chairs and a mix of industrial and organic accent furniture."
