Popular Television Shows Inspired This Wedding at The Fig House in Los Angeles, California

Melanie Gasmen and Benjamin Fleck's shared love of television informed the overall theme of their wedding day. From a "Game of Thrones"-inspired outfit for Melanie to a Joey from "Friends"-inspired suit for the officiant, television moments and references were threaded throughout the celebration. Melanie shares that she's, "a big 'Game of Thrones' fan—both of the books and show. And one of Daenerys’ outfits stood out to me. It was a simple white gown with a simple white cape, and after seeing it, that was just it for me. I knew I HAD to have a cape with my dress. So, my look was very “modern Daenerys,” I guess." Meanwhile, Ben's look was drawn from "The Bachelor" franchise. "Funnily enough, one night, Melanie was watching an episode of 'The Bachelor' and she casually mentioned she really liked one of the male contestant’s suits despite disliking the contestant himself. The guy, Luke P., was wearing a bold blue suit. And I had to admit, it was a great color," shares Ben. Keeping the television theme alive for their Los Angeles wedding, the officiant dressed in, "old timey soldier garb like Joey from 'Friends,' when he officiated Chandler and Monica’s wedding."

Beyond fashion, even the decor at this California wedding was television-inspired. "We wanted to pay homage to our favorite TV shows and TV fandoms throughout, but we wanted to make sure our decor came across as more fun and tasteful versus campy," they share. "Instead of table numbers, we wanted to name each table after one of our favorite shows. So we had 16 tables and each was named after a fave TV show." These included everything from "Smallville" and "Full House" to "Lost" and "The Office" table names. "Another personalized element was how we showcased our own, individually favorite TV show. Mel’s is 'Full House' and Ben’s is 'Lost.' In our Save the Dates, our friend illustrated us wearing shirts that shared an easter egg from each show. Mel’s illustrated self wore a Jessie and the Rippers band shirt, and Ben’s had an Oceanic shirt. We carried this fav TV show aspect throughout. Our drinks were named after these shows and we also had Funkos made of ourselves on the dessert table wearing the same TV show shirts. (And yes, we also own these shirts in real life.)"

Mel and Ben's television-inspired wedding at The Fig House in Los Angeles wasn't just creative, the day's food tasted great, too. "To this day, our guests cannot stop talking about the food at our wedding. They continue to rave about the Korean bbq short rib, the mac and cheese, the baked sweet potatoes, and the brussels sprouts with bacon."
