This Rustic Wedding at The Inn at Round Barn Farm in Waitsfield, Vermont, Had a German Log-Cutting Ritual
Anna and Brett’s elegant bohemian wedding at The Inn at Round Barn Farm was filled with a surprise log cutting ceremony and DIY projects. “The German tradition symbolized the first obstacle we were to overcome as a married couple,” Anna says. “It was so fun to work as a team using a saw that we picked out together,” Anna says. Handwritten escort tags were personalized with the couple’s favorite travel spots and topography maps of trails they’ve hiked.
The textured plants, pale dahlias and dark maroon scabiosa used throughout the day were grown by friends of the couple at their farm in Portland. “They perfectly complemented the diverse vegetation on the property,” Anna says. Vintage frames and bottles the couple sourced from antique stores all over the country decorated the cocktail hour, complete with local craft beer on tap.
Guests took home mini bottles of local maple syrup tied with a leather cord and sealed with the couple’s logo. Passing up on cake, the couple served pumpkin and apple tarts for dessert in antique pots and pans. Anna found an old cassette tape with “Tougher Than the Rest” by Bruce Springsteen and knew it would be their wedding song, which the band learned and played for their first dance.
