School-Themed Waterside Wedding at Newport Beach Club in Portsmouth, Rhode Island
Shelly DeSisto (28 and a middle school English teacher) and Nate Rinas (30 and a middle school physical education teacher) met at work in Connecticut. "We coached the girls' and boys' basketball teams, and our students constantly teased us that we were secretly dating, even though we weren't," Shelly says. "We were friends for three years before Nate finally worked up the nerve to ask me out on a date." They didn't tell their students they were dating until two years later, when Nate proposed. "The next day, when we told our students, some of them were crying because they were so happy for us," Shelly says. For their ceremony they chose Glen Manor House in Shelly's hometown, Portsmouth, Rhode Island, which is also where Shelly's parents were married. "We really wanted to give our guests a true Rhode Island experience, complete with a reception at the Newport Beach Club on the shoreline of Easton's Beach," Shelly says. A blush, gold, and mint palette, along with sweet nods to their shared profession—from school-related table names written on mini-chalkboards to hall pass escort cards brought their oceanside nuptials to life. Since Nate is a phys ed teacher, and they love playing sports together, Shelly wore a personalized pair of mint Nike sneakers with her wedding dress. "I'm sure it was his favorite part of my attire," she says. —Meghan Overdeep
