Following six years of courtship, Tara and Dennis invited their parents to Boulder, Colorado, to meet each other for the first time. Around that time, Dennis popped the question with an antique ring he scouted from a local vintage shop. The Bride Tara Stahla, 29, medical student The Groom Dennis Carey, 29, marketing The Date March 22 Although at first the two were intimidated by the idea of orchestrating a large event, Tara and Dennis decided to hold their wedding in the comfort of her parents’ new home in Denton, Nebraska. Dennis’ father, a judge, officiated. Inspired by her vintage engagement ring, Tara and her mother decorated a large white tent in the backyard with a palette of antique white, charcoal, and spring green, which paralleled the natural backdrop of early spring in the Midwest.

A modern take on the bridal bouquet, Tara had her florist bundle lush hydrangeas around spiky lilies of the Nile.
After the cocktail hour, guests returned to find the tent filled with tables set in white for dinner and a comforting aroma of food prepared on-site. As the sun faded, the couple lit strands of lights along the canopied ceiling that paired with glowing votives on the tables.
Tara created coasters by encasing photographs of the Nebraska countryside, taken by her stepfather, in glass squares. She bundled sets of four with yellow ribbon and a personalized note.
Guests drooled over this tower of chocolate and French vanilla cupcakes topped with buttercream frosting, fresh berries, and mint leaves. The couple also offered an ice cream sundae bar and homemade chocolate chip cookies, which Tara and her mom had baked that morning.
Dress designer Tara Keely fashioned this satin gown with a lace ruffle overlay and a flowing train. Tara finished her classic look by tying a silk ribbon to the bodice and donning a pearl necklace, pearl earrings, and a loosely swept updo.
Tara’s attendant, one of her closest friends, wore her own strapless, black gown and strands of black pearls, which contrasted with Tara’s white bridal ensemble and matched the ceremony’s simple grayscale theme.
Like little white fireworks, these lilies of the Nile popped from their glass vases, creating a fresh and elegant centerpiece glowing in the light of a few votive candles.
For their first “dance,” Dennis and Tara held each other for the photographer to the sound of clinking silverware as guests settled for dinner. The first official twirl was to John Lennon’s version of “Stand by Me.”
Dennis’ father, a judge, performed the ceremony in an airy tent loosely draped with white crepe curtains and strands of twinkling lights. Spindly green willow branches flanked the altar.
Dennis selected an Italian-style groom’s cake topped with blackberries, which was set on leaves to create an earthy look.
Flames soared as the chef prepared a pasta dinner for the guests, warming up the lofty tent on a brisk spring evening.
