The Coast of Australia Inspired This Modern Neutral Wedding at Colony 29 in Palm Springs, California

For their desert wedding in Palm Springs, Samantha Birkel and Zack Novack drew inspiration from a far-flung locale—the coast of Australia. "We both wanted more of a non-traditional, outdoor California wedding that felt authentically 'us.' I drew a lot of my inspiration from coastal Australian weddings, they're unique but timeless. Our venue was a tropical oasis dropped in the middle of the desert. It was essentially a blank canvas that we could take in any direction. We added natural textures, chic neutrals and statement furniture that really enhanced the beauty of our venue without going overboard," Samantha shares of her California wedding with a neutral color palette. As for décor, the couple, "loved the idea of transforming every space of our venue with sculptural florals and statement furniture pieces." Midcentury-modern chairs and pampas grass arrangements ensured the whole space popped visually. When it came to actually celebrating in their curated space, the couple hired a vintage trailer to serve as an after-dinner tequila and whiskey tasting bar. They also served In-n-Out burgers as a late-night snack to keep the party going. For to-be-weds currently in the throes of planning, Samantha shares this advice: "Go with your gut. There were so many things I kept second guessing but always ended up going with my gut. Everyone will have an opinion and try not to get wrapped up in what other people want for your big day."
