This Bougainvillea-Filled Wedding at Sandbox in San Diego Was Totally Glam
Incorporating as much bougainvillea as possible was the goal for Malika (a journalist) and Antar (a photographer) with their “pops of pink”-themed wedding. “All the glorious colors,” of bougainvillea blooms inspired the warm, vibrant color palette, which the couple accented with modern white and gold touches in their warehouse space. Not only did Malika and Antar want the décor to look bright and cheerful, they wanted the celebration to feel that way, too. “Most important to us was ensuring that our guests walked away having thoroughly enjoyed themselves. “We didn’t want it to feel stuffy,” so the couple designed a, “classy party atmosphere with a spiritual undertone that highlighted why we were gathered. It wasn’t just a merging of two people, it was a merging of families and friends from across world.”
Incorporating their shared Islamic faith was key for the couple. One way they honored their religion was by laying, “out carpets for those who wanted to pray the Muslim sunset prayer.” Inspired by the social media aspects of her job, Malika created a wall at the party displaying a live feed of guest tweets using the wedding hashtag. “We’re both in the production industry so we know the importance of great lighting,” Malika says. To illuminate the warehouse, they, “went all out with lanterns for a soft glow,” plus oversized LOVE marquee letters. In addition to bougainvillea, Malika’s bouquet incorporated astilbe, astrantia, peonies, lisianthus, ranunculus, garden roses, rice flower and spirea.
