This Couple Wove a Floral Crest Through the Design of Their Fort Mill, South Carolina, Wedding
Family was at the center of Avery and Will's private residence wedding in Fort Mill, South Carolina. From a custom crest that celebrated the new family Avery and Will were forming to plenty of nods to the couple's heritage (they were actually married on the same property where both Avery's parents and grandparents tied the knot), honoring familial connection was paramount with their preppy, Southern celebration. "Both our ceremony and reception were held at my great-grandfather's home, a property that has been passed through generations of my family for almost 200 years," explains Avery. "I wanted to make sure that the wedding reflected how special that spot was for me so I incorporated several details to weave our family history into my own special day, such as using my great-grandmother's wedding sash as the ribbon around my bouquet, getting ready in my grandmother's bedroom, driving away in my great-grandfather's car and even recreating some of my favorite photos from my grandmother's wedding day."
In addition to celebrating family and heritage, it was paramount for Avery and Will that their big day celebrate springtime in the South and the beauty that comes with the season. "I wanted our wedding to have a magical, whimsical vibe that reflected the natural beauty of springtime in the South," says Avery. "Although all details were intentionally chosen, I did not want anything to seem too manicured but rather wanted the event to seem like a dreamy combination of all things naturally gorgeous. I really did not have any specifications for the design and decor for my ceremony and reception other than I wanted it to flow with the natural beauty of the yard as well as transform it into a magical setting for the evening. The florals were definitely the key to achieving this overall vision for the wedding decor. I have always loved the flowers that bloom during springtime in the South and wanted to use a plethora of different florals to showcase how wonderful that season truly is. I also emphasized that my biggest goal for our wedding was that our guests looked back on the day and remembered how much fun they had, and judging from the photos I believe that goal was well achieved!"
Looking back on her private residence wedding in Fort Mill, South Carolina, Avery encourages currently engaged couples to "enjoy the process and make sure to take time to breathe and enjoy your wedding day! It goes by so fast and it is the quiet, intimate moments that I look back on and cherish the most. Also, do not be afraid to ask for help from experts, family and friends. Planning a wedding is a lot of work and the more help and advice you can get, the better you will be able to focus on what really matters: marrying your best friend."
