This Couple's Dog Was the Something Blue at Their Beach Microwedding in San Diego, California
Teresa and Zack, parents to social-media-famous pup Sushi (@sushisaid) met when they were just 11 years old and planned to celebrated their 22 year romance with a 200-person wedding on June 19th, 2020. However, once the COVID-19 pandemic hit, it was immediately clear that their original wedding plans would have to change. "Due to COVID-19, we had to cancel our wedding. It was heartbreaking. We no longer felt comfortable having a big gathering, and probably still wouldn't feel comfortable to reschedule for next year either. We decided to go to the courthouse instead. In April, we posted a sad video on TikTok (@sushisaid) updating our fans about our canceled wedding. More accurately, we shared the sad news with our dog's fans," Teresa shares.
"Then something magical happened! Ema Giangreco saw our video on TikTok. She is an acclaimed destination wedding planner who happened to be in love with Sushi! Ema was touched by our story. She heard about our canceled wedding and wanted to help. Ema and her team graciously gifted us with an intimate destination wedding of our dreams!"
With the help of Ema, "on June 16th, 2020, we got married in a beautiful private paradise in San Diego before our family. The wedding was more stunning than I could ever imagine. It was picturesque while thoughtfully weaving in pieces of our personality and our love for our dog. After all, this wedding came together largely because of Sushi. She was also the ring bearer!" Sushi's famously blue ears complemented the beach wedding's blue-and-taupe color palette perfectly. A poolside ceremony and blue watercolor invitations set the tone for the day. The ocean-inspired aesthetic carried through to the intimate reception in the form of blue velvet chairs, blue pillar candles and dramatically textured gold-and-blue wedding cake.
Teresa shares that, "2020 started out as the worst year. But now has become the best year for so many reasons. We are so blessed to be able to celebrate our love in these wild and crazy times. I am so touched by everyone’s generosity and support. We feel like the luckiest couple in the world!”
