This Modern-Meets-Boho Southampton, New York, Wedding Almost Didn't Have a Venue
After their initial venue fell through three months before the wedding, Kate O’Donnell (27 and a merchandising and design operations manager) and Matt Cavallo (28 and in new business development) panicked but eventually lucked out. They rented a private beachfront property that became the focus of their relaxed, natural celebration. The couple made a point to work mostly with female small business owners, who brought in textured linens, muted colors and soft lighting to help them create a breezy atmosphere.
Kate carried roses, peonies, lisianthus, clematis and blueberry foliage. Roses, delphinium and grapevine decorated the front yard. The couple’s goddaughters wore flower crowns. Clouds of grapevine, lunaria and gypsophila hung from the tent. “We had no seating plan, which was our best logistical move of the night,” Kate says. “People hopped from table to table.” In one part of the space, mismatched leather and wood furniture created a cool seating nook. Guests could help themselves to dinner anytime and sample dishes like chilled lobster tail with charred corn and cream. Servers also passed buttermilk waffles with fried quail eggs and pea shoots to be enjoyed by all. Later, the newlyweds danced to “Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I’m Yours” by Stevie Wonder.
