This Wedding at Urban Artifact in Cincinnati, Ohio, Was Filled With Traditional Tunisian Customs

Sarah Wisler (25 and a network technician in the United States Air Force) and Haythem Tlili (31 and a student and bartender) didn’t just view their wedding day as a marriage of two people, but also as “a marriage of two cultures,” Sarah says. “We wanted to incorporate Haythem’s Tunisian roots into the day as much as possible.” In that spirit, much of the day was a DIY effort, from decorating the hall in gold henna-inspired patterned vases to Sarah rocking heirloom Tunisian jewelry and traditional henna. At the reception, guests ate falafel and gyros as they sang along to classics and some Tunisian and Bollywood favorites. They later took home Jordan almonds, a time-honored edible favor.
Sarah, Haythem and their guests celebrated at Urban Artifact in Northside, an event space formerly known as St. Patrick’s church. “The architecture is beautiful and has so much character,” Sarah says. Instead of cake, guests grabbed s’mores and creme-brulee-flavored cupcakes. For Sarah, “La Vie en Rose” took on a poetic meaning. “Haythem makes me feel as though I see life through rose-colored glasses,” she says. “He really brought a positive change to my life.”
