For Anna, Cecy's Gallery & Studios is a truly special place – it's where she feels immediate belonging and comfort. When she first visited Durham, it was the vibrant local art scene and the clear commitment to building a diverse community that really drew her in. Stepping into Cecy's gives you a glimpse into Durham's approachable, friendly artist community that celebrates one another and offers the best unique gifts.

Anna often shares with Cecy exactly who she's shopping for, whether it's friends becoming first-time parents, family members celebrating birthdays, or when she's just wandering in and needs the social connection and inspiration that comes with visiting the shop. We've linked directly to their "About Us" page because understanding the roots of this business is essential to truly appreciate its incredible community impact, amazing selection of local art, and the owner behind all the magic.

Fun Fact: Anna & Michael took family visiting to the museum before Azi was born because the exhibits and activities are engaging for all ages! We highly suggest walking through the Butterfly House! Food & Drink

Durham Food Hall

530 Foster St Suite 1, Durham, NC 27701, USA
(919) 908-9339

Guess what?!

If you're staying at the hotel The Durham Food Hall is only .03 miles away! You're guaranteed to find something for everyone at this spot.

Everything Bagels: Features locally sourced gourmet bagels, avant-garde sandwiches, and bagel-burgers daily (not affiliated with the Bergstein Family).

Locals Seafood: Offers fresh, albeit pricey, North Carolina seafood. They’re committed to sourcing responsibly from local fisherfolk and shellfish farmers and the ice that falls from the ceiling makes for a nice conversation piece.

MILKLAB: Serves delicious boba milk tea. Anna recommends the Strawberry Matcha Latte + Boba.

Liturgy Beverage Company: Offering specialty coffee, tea, and chocolate company focused on connecting the work of farmers with the habits and rituals of our community in Durham.

Strong Arm Bakery: Highly recommended, even with long lines at the Farmers Market. A smaller selection of Strong Arm items are also available at Liturgy Beverage Company inside the Food Hall. Regardless of if you choose the Farmers Market or Food Hall, do not leave this city without trying something from Strong Arm Bakery.

Queeny's

321 E Chapel Hill St Suite 100, Durham, NC 27701, USA

If you want to experience the true spirit of Durham, Queeny's is a must-visit. It's a place where everyone feels welcome, no matter the time or your attire. Good times are guaranteed. As you might have gathered from our 'Love Story' (and we understand if you skimmed!), it was a memorable stop on our second date. Plus, its shared patio with Kingfisher means you can easily check off two of our favorite Durham spots in one go. Queeny's is truly special.

Recommendations:

Get the fried pickles and chicken crispers for the table... with all the sauces. Not feeling like something heavy? Still, take a bite of both of those things ...and then order the Kale Salad. It's delish!

Kingfisher

321 E Chapel Hill St, Durham, NC 27701, USA

This was our first date spot and looking back, it was the perfect combination of Anna's eye for artful design and Michael's high standards for unique and flavorful drinks.

The owners, including a ceramic artist, have created a visually appealing space with unique touches like handmade bar tiles and glassware.

Kingfisher is a nationally recognized cocktail bar located in downtown Durham, known for its innovative "ground-to-glass" approach that heavily features local produce and foraged ingredients in its drinks. Situated in a trendy, dimly lit basement space, it offers a sophisticated yet cozy atmosphere with private booths and a back patio.
