Glacier National Park requires a timed entry pass for any car driving on Going to the Sun Road (which is the main road through the park).
Passes for July of 2024 come out in March!
If you miss the early pass drop, you can attempt a day of Going to the Sun Road pass at 8am, which is good for the next day
You will also need a National Parks pass to get into the park in addition to the Going to the Sun Road pass.
Some of our absolute favorite hikes and views in Glacier National Park.
1. Driving the Going to the Sun Road - absolutely gorgeous views of the mountains! If you are a little nervous to drive a mountain pass, no worries, you can book a trolley ride and they will drive you through the park!
2. Our absolute favorite hike is to Avalanche Lake! About a 6 mile hike, on the West side of the park right off of the Going to the Sun Road near Lake McDonald. This is a mostly covered hike, that ends at a gorgeous alpine lake!
3. Entering the park from the East Side (many glacier). Driving past Many Glacier Hotel, absolutely gorgeous. We loved the hike called Grinnell Glacier Hike. It is about 10 miles round trip and is a workout! If you didn't want to go as far, you could take a nice nature walk to the alpine glacier lakes.
4. At the top of Logan's pass there is a 5 mile (about), hike called Hidden Lake. Beautiful views, and a pretty easy walk/hike.
The West side of the park is definitely the busiest and most touristy. It has beautiful views, and more nature walk type hikes as well as more difficult hikes.
The East side of the park is more challenging with longer more difficult hikes and breathtaking views.
Always remember to be bear aware, carry bear spray with you at all times. Pack it in and pack it out, carry lots of water, and snacks!
We know you will love Glacier as much as we do!
There are tons more areas in the Kalispell/Whitefish area to go on adventures!
