Jacob and Colleen met in April of 2022. Their first date was on May 11th at Mesero, a tex-mex restaurant. Jacob arrived extra early to secure a table and Colleen arrived late, of course. The dinner date went so well that they extended the date and grabbed gelato down the street. Amorino Gelato is still one of their favorite places to go for a sweet treat. After a couple dates, Jacob and Colleen both knew they were serious about one another. Throughout their time as boyfriend and girlfriend they spent a lot of time getting to know each other and exploring their similar interests. Jacob and Colleen both share the same love for working in healthcare, date nights, taking walks on the Trinity Trail, roller blading, going to the movie theaters and having spontaneous weekends. Jacob and Colleen have also had the pleasure of traveling to many incredible destinations together including Israel and Greece. Jacob and Colleen have grown to love each other's family and friends. They have enjoyed many holidays at Jacob's Uncle Robert's house, weekends at Jacob's Mimi and Pappaw's lake house, a special trip to Colleen's home city, Pittsburgh, PA and to Colleen's family's camp in West Monterey, PA.
Jacob had been planning this big surprise for a couple months. Colleen had just returned home, from traveling back from Pittsburgh. She had a busy two days, leading up to her and Jacob going on vacation with Colleen's family. Jacob asked Colleen to go out to dinner that Friday night, before heading to Austin / Port Aransas. Colleen agreed despite being exhausted, unpacked for the upcoming trip and having unwashed hair. Jacob slyly encouraged Colleen to dress nicer than leggings and a T-shirt. (Colleen is extremely grateful for that, looking back now!) Jacob was planning to surprise Colleen with the restaurant he was taking her to. Jacob surprises Colleen quite often so this was not out of the ordinary. Since they were dressed in jeans and boots, Colleen assumed they were headed to the Stockyards. However when driving, Jacob made an unexpected turn towards the downtown area. Colleen was still not suspicious because there's many places to eat downtown. Jacob had pulled over into a parking spot near The Fort Worth Water Gardens, which are one of Colleen's favorite places in town. Jacob asked Colleen if she'd like to walk through the water gardens, before dinner, to get a picture before the sun sets. Colleen obviously, excitedly agreed. She had no idea Jacob's family and friends, including Michelle with her camera, were hiding in the bushes waiting for them. As Jacob and Colleen approached the largest water garden they realized the garden was flooded. Jacob, the man with the plan, knew he couldn't back out of this "sunset picture." Jacob and Colleen trudged through the water in their boots. (Cowboy/cowgirl boots are not water proof, if you were wondering). Before Colleen could comprehend what was happening, Jacob was down on one knee before her. He was holding the most stunning ring and said "Colleen Cummings, will you marry me?" After of course saying, "Yesss!" Colleen and Jacob turned around to the surprise visitors. Colleen and Jacob popped champagne and took photos. Then they all headed to Texas de Brazil for a celebratory dinner. Meanwhile Mike and Cailey, Colleen's brother and sister in law, were stalking Collen's location and secretly watching the surprise unfold. Needless to say, Colleen and Jacob were extremely late arriving to Austin. Colleen and Jacob were able to surprise Colleen's family the next day on the San Antonio River Walk, when they met for lunch. They had a super fun week at the beach celebrating and kicked off the wedding planning.
