Darwin and Estrella’s love story began like many couples nowadays--through a platform. Their first meeting was at a small bar in Shanghai called Twins. What started as a casual meet-up after a workday dinner felt like destiny. From their initial encounter at the bar to strolling through the neighborhood, they connected instantly and enjoyed each other's company immensely. The sparks that flew during their conversation hinted at the beginning of an extraordinary story.

After just five dates, Darwin and Estrella knew they had found something remarkable. They officially began their relationship on Saturday, March 5th, 2022. To celebrate, Estrella decided to stay over at Darwin’s studio for the weekend. As fate would have it, Darwin's compound was locked down due to neighbors testing positive for Covid-19. Shortly after, the entire city of Shanghai of 25 Million residents went into complete lockdown. The lockdown lasted about 100 days, a challenging time for everyone due to concerns over food supplies. Darwin’s boy scout habits paid off as they were well-prepared, and street government food supplies were restored just before their stock ran low. While others struggled, Darwin and Estrella found joy in cooking together. They created 113 different dishes, from Chinese to American, Spanish, Mexican, and Indian cuisine. Darwin even gained 10 kg during this time! Both had to work remotely, navigating the challenges of work calls and laptop meetings. The emotional stress was high, but having each other’s support was a blessing. This period of intense togetherness accelerated their relationship, proving that they could weather any storm together.

Once the lockdown was lifted, Darwin and Estrella traveled to many different cities and places. These adventures brought them closer as they experienced new things and challenged each other, growing as individuals and as a couple. In December 2022, Darwin and Estrella moved in together, already seasoned by their lockdown experience. Despite the turbulence in the macro environment, their mutual support helped them through. They knew they were planning to spend their lives together.

On March 10, 2024, at a camping site on the West Bund in Shanghai, with Estrella's brother and Darwin's cousin witnessing, Darwin proposed to Estrella. Exactly two years after the Shanghai lockdown, on this special day, they officially became engaged.

As both are transplants to Shanghai, Darwin and Estrella will be having multiple weddings in their hometowns: in Estrella’s hometown in Shandong, China, Darwin’s family hometown in Guiyang, another in Shanghai, and one in Los Angeles. The Los Angeles wedding holds a special place in their hearts, as it will be an intimate gathering for Darwin's friends and family, marking the first of their series of celebrations. They are thrilled to begin their lifelong journey with those who have been integral to their lives.
