Moab has a population of 5000 people, yet it attracts 3 million visitors every year! As a busy tourist town, we highly recommend booking as far in advance as you can for things like lodging. There is a plethora of hotels, airbnbs, campsites, and even a quirky hostel. We recommend searching on AirBnB, Vrbo, and Google. Our wedding will be in Castle Valley, which is a scenic 35 minute drive from Moab, so we recommend choosing lodging in Moab where you are closer to the National Parks and amenities.
Moab has a grocery store or two, a health food coop, and tons of restaurants. You won't find big box stores here, but you can generally get everything you need.
Many visitors fly to Salt Lake City and rent a car. It is about a 4 hour drive from Moab, but it is beautiful! We recommend checking flights to Grand Junction, Colorado (1.5 hours away) and Moab Canyonlands Airport, which has a connection through Phoenix and Denver. You'll want a car here, so often it ends up being more affordable to fly to a larger airport and rent one there.
Moab is an incredible destination, with two national parks and thousands of acres of public land with breathtaking views, canyons and hikes to explore. If you can spare an extra day (or week), make this a vacation. You won't regret it, we promise!
Fly to Moab if you can!
1.5 hours drive from Moab
4 Hour drive from Moab.
7 Hour Drive from Moab. Great option if you want to visit National Park's like Zion, Bryce Canyon, and Capital Reef on your way!
There are a plethora of AirBnB's and VRBO's in Moab, just be sure you get one booked ahead of time as they fill up fast. They are great options for those with kids, or folks who want a kitchen and a more homey feel. When looking at the map, we suggest choosing ones that are not situated right on the 191, which is the highway that goes through town. Aside from a few exceptions, this highway can be noisy, so you'll have a nicer experience being in a neighborhood.
Moab is small but long, so some airbnbs are located south of town, so just consider that they will be a 15-20 minute drive from downtown Moab.
Tiny Houses, Cottages, Campsites. Close to highway but reasonably priced, allows pets, and is in a central location.
Airbnb's with a massive fake-rock pool and hot tubs, this is your quintessential Moab airbnb experience! Great option for groups!
This is the closest lodging to the wedding venue, but about a 30 minute drive from Moab.
Beautiful, small boutique bed and breakfast on a peaceful property out of town. Medicine wheel, yoga barn, and nearby trails.
Owned by friends of ours, this is a homey-place run by an Italian-American couple who love to host! And boy can they cook!
A true Western Experience!
There are tons of campsites all around Moab. Some are by reservation, some are walk in, and some are free! The free sites are primitive and do not have toilets. The paid sites have pit toilets. Additionally, there are KOA sites and similar in Moab, with showers, toilets and power, however we recommend foregoing those amenities in exchange for being out of town under a million stars!
Some of our favorite camp sites are Big Bend Campground, Horsethief Campground, Lone Mesa Campground, and Moonflower Canyon Group Site.
If you are self-contained and have everything you need to camp, this is just one of many areas you can camp for free! It is primitive, meaning there is no running water or toilet, so you need to bring everything, including wag bags (it's illegal to poop in the desert, don't do it!).
There are numerous free camp spots all down the 313 road, so don't feel like you have to camp here, but I wanted to share an example of one.
Camping at our wedding! Our wedding will be in Castle Valley, about 35 minutes drive from Moab. If you want to sleep in your car or camp on the property the night of the 20th, you are welcome to!
