Jake & I met on match.com after we both got out of other relationships. We were searching for love, and ready to find a life long partner. Jake says he knew from our first date that I was the person he wanted to marry. I, on the other hand, wasn’t so sure. I knew Jake was a great guy, and I could tell he really cared about me, but I was hesitant. It’s pretty safe to safe that my walls were still up. I had a 6-month-old daughter from a previous relationship, and Jake had twin girls who were 5 at the time. I knew we needed to be cautious for our children. After months of dating had gone by, I told Jake I was ready to be his girlfriend. My exact words were “I am ready.” Read below for the rest of our love story :)
Fast forward 2 years and we’ve been talking about marriage pretty seriously. Jake asked me once how he knew when I would really be ready to accept a proposal. And to be honest, I wasn’t sure. He jokingly said, “you should just propose to me.” I just laughed it off at the moment. But a few weeks later he made the same comment, but this time he added: “I would really know you’re ready if you’re the one who asks me.” And that’s when I really started thinking seriously about it. We started talking about the kinds of rings we wanted, and that we wanted the styles to mesh well together. I decided on a rose gold design and started looking for his to match. I got the inside of the ring engraved “I am ready” just like when I told him I was ready to make our relationship official.
So when it was time for the proposal to take place, I knew I wanted all of our family there. I planned a photo shoot with us and our 3 girls. We went the Sunset Beach and had a variety of family photos taken. At the very end, it was just the 2 of us by the water. I had Jake’s back facing the direction where our entire families where walking down. My mom had a speaker playing our song, “Grow Old” by Florida Georgia Line. I said my speech (which I had written on flash cards I might add), got on a knee, and asked him to be my husband. We finished the photo shoot with some family shots. It was a magical evening!
