Like many in the midst of COVID, Shannon and Jonathan met online—a chance connection during a time when social interaction was rare. Shannon had just moved back from North Carolina and was adjusting to life in her hometown of Warwick, while Jonathan was ready to share his local favorites with her. After two months of conversations and growing excitement, they finally met in person on February 12, 2022. Jonathan, eager to make a great first impression, chose Kai for a drink and then Safehouse for dinner—unaware of how packed it would be with Valentine’s Day around the corner (he's an Essex)!
Despite the bustling restaurant scene, they hit it off immediately, so much so that Shannon asked Jonathan for a second date before dinner was even over. Jonathan was thrilled and said yes right away. Their second date brought a quieter charm: coffee and tea with a walk, where Shannon met Boots, Jonathan’s beloved dog. Boots was an instant hit, and the three spent a magical snowy day walking through Rocky Point State Park, beginning what would soon become a wonderful adventure together.
As their love grew, so did their little family. Shannon moved in with Jonathan, bringing along her fluffy “Easter Bunny,” Jack Frost. Over time, two more rabbits, Gweny and Belles, joined the family, filling their home with warmth, love, and a little bit of chaos! Jonathan realized he was beginning to resemble his father, and Shannon, noticing the resemblance, was both amused and charmed. In fact, there’s a favorite photo that tells the whole story from one unforgettable car ride home (see below!).
Then, on August 18, 2023, Jonathan planned a proposal that was as thoughtful as it was romantic (once again like a true Essex). Knowing Shannon’s love for New Hampshire, the outdoors, and covered bridges, he chose the Honey Moon Covered Bridge in Jackson, New Hampshire, as the perfect spot. With the sun setting around them, Jonathan got down on one knee (despite a recent hamstring tear from their men’s softball championship—yes, they won!) and mumbled through the proposal. Even though his words were stuttered, Shannon’s answer was clear: “Yes!” And, true to their partnership, she helped him back up.
We can’t wait to celebrate this journey with you all on our wedding day!
